The collection can be found in the former Almásy house, or as it is better known - Saint Crown House, where the Hungarian Crown was guarded three times from 1806 to 1809. Mot only goldsmith works of great artistic value: goblets, soled crosses, shrines and images of the Lord are preserved in the treasury, but other objects: pictures, books, vestments and statues. 12 out of 48 goldsmith works are medieval and of Renaissance period, seven of them are goblets with specific Hungarian filigree decoration. All of them were made in the same workshop or by the same group of artisans between 1500 and 1510. The golden silver image of the Lord, resembling a Gothic tower from the beginning of the 16th century shows quite a different kind of beauty. So do several Baroque images of the Lord, rich in decoration and made by Hungarian artists in the 18th century and numerous other goblets, pyxes and shrines from later centuries. It is by all means worth looking at the 15th century Gothic bronze baptizing basin, unique in our country, which has been standing in the southern side of the sanctuary of Saint Bertalan parish-church - its original place, for 500 years. The library with nearly 16000 volumes contains books of other medieval libraries that belonged to the Franciscan Order in Hungary and were destroyed. The materials of these libraries were integrated and satisfied the needs of the Order which undertakes educational and medical missions for centuries. Theological, phylosophical, historical, scientific and medical books preserved numerous hand-written remarks of that period, which increases the historical and cultural value of the library. Several valuable linguistic relics were discovered in the library stock, such as the „Codex of Gyöngyös" or the „Word fragments of Gyöngyös". At present the books include 5 codices, 210 incunabuli and 189 old Hungarian books. Consisting of almost 900-volumes the antique collection contains several decorative, leather- bound works of the best-known Italian, French, German and Dutch ancient printing houses. A permanent exhibition on the life of the Franciscan Order can be visited in the entrance hall of the library. The eight-meter high altar with numerous dynamic figures is likely to be the work of the South-Polish artists from the mid-i7th century. Stripes of script, containing quotations from the Song of Songs, are winding on the tree-trunk, the branches are decorated with two grape-leaves. The middle picture of the altar, in the oval frame, presents the birth of Mary. The altar that had been seriously damaged and transformed through the course of history several times, was perfectly restored by the experts of the Hungarian Inspection of Monuments after 1968.
