The Eger thermal bath was built near the Turkish bath in the 16th century. This is the only one medicinal bath in Hungary which can be found in the city center. This bath, lying on an area of approximately 5 hectares, with its medicinal water is famous all over Europe. The seven pools in the bath are fed by hot-water springs gushing from the area. The Turks also discovered the favorable effect of the water. In one part of the bath the pools are fed by the slightly radioactive medicinal water of 28 °C springing from the area of the bath or nearby. Other pools receive sulphurous, calcium-hydrogenecarbonate medicinal water, which is led to the bath along a pipeline from the outskirts of Eger. Both medicinal waters play an important role primarily in curing rheumatism. The water supply of the big pool is unique: water gushes through the genuine gravel layer at the bottom of the pool. The medicinal spring contains radon in it, and the water is cooled down to 28 °C by adding cold water to it. 5 The Eger Thermal Bath
