Wine Consecration in the Basilica on St John's Day

Wine makers from and around Eger place their new wines on the altar of the Basilica, and after the chapter’s service they ask for the consecration of the wines. The

ceremonial program starts in the Basilica, where the wines are consecrated after the chapter’s service.

Wines are carried by women dressed in traditional folk costumes, and they are escorted by the members of the Vinum Agriense Wine Order on their way from the Lyceum to the Basilica. Under ceremonial circumstances also the quantity produced of origin-protected Egri Leányka, Egri Bikavér and Debrői Hárslevelű is announced.
