The Eger wine region can be found on the south-westen slopes of the Bükk Mountains, between the Mátra am the Bükk mountain ranges. At the foothills of the moun tains, where the Northern Mountain Ranges and th< Great Plains meet, a wine producing area which ha gained world fame by now was created several centurie ago. Grape growing started as early as the beginning o the 11th century.

When the bishopric was established monastic order

The History of the Eger Wine Region

moved into the town, and they brought their grape anc wine culture with them from their home, since wine played an important role in Christian ceremonies.
