GREETING Dear Visitors, I would like to welcome you when holding the brochure of our town in hand, Gyöngyös and its surroundings, the settlements of the Mátras and its vicinity. When visiting our surroundings, hopefully you will also experience that during the last year our region got richer in beauty, hospitality and in sights, as well. While our museums and exhibitions show our town's cultural traditions and values, our cultural programmes organized open-air between May and September give the real opportunity to make our traditions well-known. The Orczy Mansion - which accommodates the most visited local exhibition, the Mátra Museum - after significant reconstruction works is open again and soon the garden and the park belonging to the mansion will also be reborn. This friendly area is absolutely worth visiting where you can find the beauty of the nature, special climate, historic monuments, rich folk traditions and different kinds of activities for spending leisure time ranging from hunting to hiking.
