A Difficult Track worthy of a World Championship Mr. Auguste Dubey the first world champion of four-in hand driving participates in the World Championship of 1984 as the technical delegate of F. E. I. In this capacity he has visited Szilvásvárad in the last days of June and supervised the preparations. Understandably his chief concern was the marking out of the marathon course. He found obstacle no. 1. a little too easy, obstacle no. 2 too difficult but fair — as he termed it. He requested to change obstacle no. 5 so that as few competitors as possible should be forced to give up the contest. At the same time he wanted a more difficult no. 6 obstacle but relinquished this demand upon the request of the Hungarian organisers. He was happy to see that last obstacle, the labyrinth, would be built on the central track and as a result those will be able to enjoy the finish who have not walked out to the terrain but, only wait for arrivals excitedly in the stadium. Mr. Dubey told that since the first World Championship in 1972 carriage driving has changed considerably, together with the other branches of sport. Naturally it has got more difficult but also more faried, and a world championship estblishes the standard not only of the best drivers but also of the best horses. He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Hungarian organisers and state bodies who had accepted the careful and presumably high-standard organisation of this beautiful but difficult international contest. Mr. Dubey arrives on the scene on August 11th to control everything once more before the start of the competition. 15
