Guests for its summer course are waited for again, and now for the tenth time, by Eger, the town at the Bükk mountains. The town is nearly a thousand years old. Its name is connected with the first medical university and the first observatory in Hungary. The great constructional works of the 18th century attracted famous architects even from abroad. Its rich library comprised all the branches of "septem artes liberales" /seven liberal arts/ and is still the pride of the town. Its "Lyceum" /today: Teachers’ Training College/ built in the late baroque style, the neoclassic cathedral, the row of baroque palaces in Kossuth Lajos street, the renowned wrought iron gates of the County Council, the medieval buildings and ruins of the fortress, and innumerable other monuments give an idea to the visitors of the colourful and vivid life of the town in different ages. This town, nearly a thousand years old and yet young, cherishing and preserving its past urges itself on the arduous way of quick development, in economic and cultural life. If you stand on the walls of the fortress looking at the town in the valley and the surrounding vine-hills, you can see and feel how past and present unite and. become future. The participants of the summer course will be shown all the important monuments of art and architecture produced through 10 centuries. Who becomes familiar with Eger will always long to see it again. You are kindly invited and awaited to our summer course of preservation of monuments. 37
