Ladies and Gentlemen! This is the 13th time that enthusiasts of Hungarian cinema from home and abroad will be received in Eger* It has been a tradidion of the summer course to encourage the participants to familiarize themselves with the creative careers of some outstanding Hungarian film directors. It is the first time that the summer course is presenting a review of the films made by a woman director. Márta Mészáros made her first feature film in 1968 entitled ’The Day that Paddes’. This film was favourably received both in Hungary and abroad. A few of her 13 feature films enjoyed an interrational success: they were shown in more than 50 countries. It is the woman that stands in the centre of her films and this is why her films have been widely acknowledged by the feminists. We have selected 8 of the films of Márta Mészáros. The peak of her creative work so far has been her film ’A Diary for My Children’, which, in 1984, was awarded the Special Prize of the Jury in Cannes, and was givern the First Prize of the Budapest Film Review. In 1986 we are going to show Hungarian feature films made since last year’s summer course. Among others you will be able to see the latest films by István Gaál, Péter Gothár, György Szomjas and Jr. Pál Schiffer. We will also introduce you to Tamás Fehéri, the most significant director of Hungarian documentary cinéma. A selection of his films in our programme reflects very well changes in our society. The latest films made in the Pannónia Filmstudio will also be shown. We hope that our programme will be a scource of lasting pleasure to you. We are looking forward to seeing you.
