EXEMPTIONS No visa is required for a child under 14 who is included in his parent’s passport and is travelling with him/her. A 72-hour sightseeing pass can be granted to foreigners staying in Austria who wish to join a group tour to Hungary arranged by an Austrian travel agency. Transit passengers who do not have a visa can ask for a sightseeing pass at Budapest International Airport or the International Boat Station. Passport Please keep your travel documents (passport, exit form, data sheet) on your person during your stay in Hungary and produce them on request to the authorities. SHOULD YOU LOSE YOUR PASSPORT, — report the matter immediately (at any time of the day) to the local police station, where a certificate is given, — with this certificate apply for a substitute passport at the embassy of your country in Hungary (see addresses) — ask for an exit permit from the local police station. Registration Tourists must report their address and every change of address at the local police office, or council in most towns within 48 hours of entering the country. Reporting your address is done for you if you are staying at a hotel, camping site, or private accommodation rented through a travel agency. If you are staying with friends or acquaintances, you must fill in a registration form available at post offices and some tobacconist’s. You can register yourself or ask the person providing the accommodation to do so. The registration is entered on the exit form and is checked by the border guards when you leave the country. If you have failed to register, you may be fined or not allowed to leave the country until you have registered. STAYING IN HUNGARY Public security in Hungary is good. Should you, however, suffer any personal harm or material loss during your stay, report it immediately to the police, who will issue a certificate and offer legal protection.
