The park, as the archbishop’s ornamental garden was converted in French style from a former hunting park. During the time of Bishop Károly Eszterházy, it was fenced around with stone walls, and the people could enter it through nice, wrought iron gates. Archbishop Szmrecsányi donated this 30 acres of area to the town in 1919. Today, in the beautiful, well tended park everyone can relax under the several hundred years old plane trees, or marvel the fountain. Different sports institutions can be found on the south-west side of the park: tennis courts, a football stadium and the Dr Ferenc Kemény Sports Arena. The Archbishop’s Garden and other landscaped public areas blossom several times a year. The vivid colors cheering up the soul, the variety of flowers are the result of hardworking hands, which gained international fame for Eger. The town has already represented Flungary at the international competition For the Flowery Towns and Villages (Entente Florale Europe), where it was awarded golden medal by the jury in Archbishop’s Garden, of the town 2007.
