The present agreement should be extended for a further three years to be reviewed again at the end ofthat period by the presiding Committee. 2. The exchange of visits by members of each group to the other country for the exchange of experience and ideas should be continued. For this purpose a bid has been submitted (September 1998) to the British Council and the Hungarian Scholarship board for travel expenses allied to a one year programme including a local studies' reader survey, the production of a Hungarian Local Studien Users ' Guide (in Hungarian, English and German) and the creation of a prototype website demonstrating comparative source material and snapshots of six communities in each country. Should this bid not succeed both Groups would continue the 1995 -1998 exchange programme of a minimum of two visits each way during the period and would approach appropriate funding bodies for assistance to achieve the quota. 3. Six subscriptions to Local Studies Librarian to be sent to the Hungarian group. Also a reference copy of LOCSCOT md a reference copy of any journal or newsletter published by the other sub-groups of the UK Local Studies Group should be offered to the Hungarian group. Samples of guides, handouts, and small publications from British local studies libraries could be exchanged with the Hungarian group where appropriate. Along with these the Group could notify or, at best, obtain to send copies of suitable local studies manuals of good international practice. This would include information about forthcoming Local Studies Group publications 5. The UK Group could offer to seek copyright permissions for the translation by the Hungarian Group of useful articles from Local Studies Librarian and elsewhere. 7.
