LIBRARY ASSOCIATION LOCAL STUDIES GROUP Mil PROPOSED COOPERATION WITH HUNGARIAN LA LOCAL STUDIES GROUP In response to an approach from the Local Studies Group of the Hungarian LA, we propose applying the International Policy of the LSG (agreed 1993) In the following way. 1. A three year agreement (1995-1998), to be reviewed at the end of the period. 2. Visits by members of each Group to the other country for exchange of experience and ideas. We suggest a minimum of two visits each way during the period. To support this we propose making approaches for financial assistance to bodies such as British Council, Library Services Trust. 1ULA, LA Branches. In-country expenses of visitors would certainly be the responsibility of LSG and the Hungarian Group. 3. Subscriptions (perhaps 6) to luteal Studies Librarian and a donation of back issues, to be offered to the Hungarian Group, 4. Offering to collect samples of guides, handouts and small publications from British local studies libraries, to offer to the Hungarian Group. 5. Offering to seek copyright permissions for the translation of useful articles from Local Studies Librarian and elsewhere by the Hungarian Group. 6. Setting up a network of potential British local studies librarian correspondents for Hungarian colleagues, and (through a nominated contact person) offering a responsive advice and discussion service on relevant professional questions for Hungarian colleagues.
