However those opposed to the plán continue their struggle. The independent environmentallst movements have collected 124. thousand signatures fór a letter demanding the post- poneraent of construction and calling fór a referendum. Gyula Bubla, MP fór Budapest' s no. 3 constituency has submitted a proposal before Parliament requesting that the issue be reconsidered. He has been joined by 31 MPs. Prime Minister Miklós Németh announced during the Parliamentary session on March 8th that the government will make a study and in May or June will submit before Parliament the possible methods and conditions fór a referendum. Until that time it will nőt speed up construction so it will still be possible to give it up. After this speech Gyula Bubla modified his earlier proposal bút Parliament decided that the debate would only be re-opened when tne government had submitted its new proposition. Bubla said afterwards that he felt cheated because his proposal to postpone work on the dam did nőt appear on the voting agenda. This swindling of MPs opposed to the 3<5s-N agy maros investment has shocked independent environmentalists, according to their information construction work is going at a rapid pace. Therefore the Bajcsy-Zsiliszky Friendship Society's Environmentelist Group, wit’n the help of the Danube movements and alternative organisations, has organised a protest trip on April 3rd to the dam. "Let's see it togetherí", says their announeement. M . | Subscribers can use or quote the Hungárián October newsletters in totál or in detail as long as the source is acknowledged. 4
