Workers Party was published recently. The Statement points out that the In- dependent Small Holdéra Party, in the Parliament elected after the war, uere alvays opposed to the social model introduced in 1948-9. The Small Holders Party collectively (and individual politicians too) said on a number of occasions that the public structure vhich the Hungárián Communist Party, the predecessor of the Hungárián Socialist Workers Party, wanted to establish and called democratic, váll lead to a dead end and can be called anything bút democratic. After this the Small Holders Party was forced to the political periphery, its leaders were imprisoned, deported, interned in the Recsk quarry or forced to leave the country. The Statement says that when judging today’s situation these historic- al events must be taken intő account. According to the Statement by the Small Holders Party’s provisional Political Committee the party is anxious to help the country emerge from this crisis and is ready to negotiate with all Progressive forces. However it condemns "endeavours vhich are confined to reform rhetoric or vhich try to stop or reverse the process of democratisation or the efforts to create a constitutional state." Finally the Statement calls upon "all citizens vho think democratically and vho condemn the Stalinist and neo- Stalinist policy of catastrophe, to unité with the Small Holders Party to fight the economic crisis, to regain true morál values fór the advance of the Hungárián nation". i I Subscribers can use or quote the Hungárián October newsletters in totál or in detail as long as the source is acknowledged. _______________ 1
