The organisers of the news agency have had contact with each other pre- viously, exchanging information about happenings in their respective coimtries and about events which were either silenced by the official press or only re- ported on insufficiently. They now wish to publish weekly reports to which anyone can subscribe. They have issued the following announcement about the news agency: "After several months of co-operation we, activists in the East-European independent movements, have decided to establish an East-European news agency which will be independent of official publicity agencies. At present the news agency covers the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland. We believe that its most important function will be to give objective information to the citizens of our countries and to make it available to everybody. We begin our work in the hope that our field of operation will extend to cover other Eastera European countries as well. Moscow - Prague - Budapest - Warsaw, 20th December, 1988.
