Various groups have already collected 65 000 signatures fór the petition, the sheets were revealed at the press conference, bút they want to collect 100 000 before they submit it to the Presidential Gouncil of the Hungárián Republic or to Parliament. The generál experience in the Capital and in the provinces was that the májőrity of the population was in agreement with the demand fór a referendum and disagreed with the govemment’s stubbom insistence on building the dam. László Vit gave an aecount of the police atrocities which hindereó signature collection and said that the Supreme Prosecutors Office nad passed their complaint to the City Chief Prosecutors Office and that no proper answer has been received. Further questions were answered by Imre Mécs who has fought fór a referendum fór years, by Tamás Kis who administered the signature sheets (secretary of the Jurta Theatre), and by László Sólyom who defined the movement’s legal position. They all said that the construction can still.be halted and that they will nőt give up the struggle. Yesterday three members of the Young Democrats Alliance - Attila Bégány, Zoltán Papp and Tamás Wachsler - submilted a proposal calling fór the resignation of Dr Miklós Vida M.P. to the VIII District Committee of the Peoples Patriotic Front. Dr Vida was one of the people who had called fór a closed session during the parliamentary debate on the Bős-Nagymaros dam. In order to call bye-elections at least 10% of the voters in an electoral ward must support the proposal, the YDA have gained much more than the legal requirement having exactly 2175 signatories on their motion of no-confidence. At the beginning of January they will commence collecting signatures. At the environmentalists press conference Árpád Fasang, a pianist, said that Hungárián Lutherans, including the majority of the pastors, have condemned the parliamentary statement by Gyula Nagy the Lutheran bishop. Gyula Nagy was among those M.P.s who voted fór the construction of the dam.
