It was published by the "Psyehoteam Mentái Hygene Methodology Centre" and on the cover a chicken breaking out of an egg is depicted. The book was published in 20 000 copies, has 104 pages and costs 49 forints. Fór the moment it includes 40 alter- native - political, trade unión, environmentalist, cultural and minority - organisations, it lists their addresses, telephoné numbers, membershipsand programmes. It alsó gives information on how to jóin them and the cost of annual membership fees. Many independent groups, mainly provinciái ones, do nőt appear in the volume due to lack of information, contacts and the fact that collection of data finished in November, bút the editors have promised to bring out a second edition in March. Yesterday on December 17th many new groups were formed.Among them alsó an umbrella body, the Transylvanian Aliiance, was formed whose basic priniciple is the unity of the Hungárián nation and the conviction that the Hungárián govemment and society are equally responsible fór Hungarians abroad. They should protect their native language and culture and be able to leam about their history and traditions. The Raoul Wallenberg Union was alsó formed yesterday with more than 200 people part- icipating. The organisation wishes to secure minority rights and protect endangered minority groups. Their founding declaration says: "Our unión takes up the spiritual inheritance of Raoul Wallenberg and wishes to defend and promote tolerance fór the culture and dignity of all minority groups against the worrying increase of old and new prejudices, intolerance and racism. . . It is the sovereign right of all people, independent of their ancestry, to identify freely and with dignity with any national, minority, ethnic, religous or cultural group." Tomorrow at 5 pm the committee of the parliament of young people working in education and the recently formed Democratic Union of Teachers will organise a demonstration from the Eötvös statue to Parliament. They demand a 50% rise in the budget, in reál value terms, fór education and culture in 1989. They are indignant that they did nőt even récéivé an answer from the authorities to their eomplaints. An hour earlier at 4 pm members of many independent organisations will organise a great meeting on Vörösmarty Square demanding the freedom to assemble, to protest, to form parties, to strike, to dissolve the present Parliament, to elect a constitutional national assembly and to hold a referendum on electoral law. The police permitted both actions. The Jurta Theatre was unable to pay its 25 millión forint debt despite donations and it placed an advert in yesterday*s edition of the Magyar Hírlap (Hungárián News) fór the sale of the 1700 square metre theatre. The advert says "The building is suitable fór a beer house, restaurant, business centre, motel, priváté club, depart- ment store, nightclub, disco centre or casino". Yesterday evening the Free Democrats Alliance organised a debate on higher education in its series "Our Acheivements". 6 Subscribers can use or quote the Hungárián October newsletters in totál or in detail as long as the source is acknowledged.
