On August 31st two-three hundred people gathered in London*s Hyde Park to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the Polish unión Solidarity. Apart from Polish emigrés a number of activists in the Polish political struggle alsó took part, including one of the organisers of the Nowa Huta strike. The meeting was organised by Marék Garztecki the president of a London group called "Campaign fór Solidarity" and editor of the periodical The Bloc . In his speech he said that today, just as the day eight years ago, might be a tuming point in Polish history because the Minister of the Interior was forced to negotiate with Solidarity. Among the speakers were John Taylor, a jour- nalist who was in Poland in 1980 and wrote a book about his experiences, Janusz Onyszkiewicz a Solidarity spoeksperson, a representative of the Afghan freedom fighters, and R. Marcetic generál secretary of the European organisation "Liaison". György Krassó forwarded greetings from the Hungárián Democratic Opposition, he said that when he was in Poland in 1980 he was filled with emotion, solicitude and shame because of the indifference of the máj őrity of the Hungárián population, bút today both the Hungarians and the Poles struggle fór liberation.- 2 -
