The 24 hour protest starts tomorrow - on the day of an official Románián state celebration - at 7 am near the Románián Embassy in Budapest, it is linked with a symbolic hunger strike. The Free Romániaigroup wants to express its solidarity with the suffering Románián nation regardless of nationality. It wants to draw International attention to the situation in Románia and to the fact that Románia does nőt adhere to the stipulations of the Helsinki Accord. In the announcement the Free Románia group’s demands appeared in 10 clauses. They are the following: the holding of free elections, the introduction of democratic reforms in Románia; the immediate cessation of the destruction of villages; the reinstatement of freedom of speech and religion; the abolition of censorship; the free right to choose piacé of residence; to honour the rights of the national minorities; to cease nation- alist, chauvinist propaganda, to ensure conditions so that Romanians and the national minorities can live peacefully side by side; the release of political prisoners and to ensure that dissidents will nőt be persecuted; to honour the international agreement pledging that families will be united; and the unhindered establishment of free trade unions in Románia. The announcement was signed by 10 members of the Free Románia group. Signatures of support were alsó collected at the démonstration, bút signatures can alsó be sent to two Budapest addresses before August 31st: to Sándor Szilágyi and Antal Vásárhelyi, participants in the Hungárián Democratic Opposition movement. The group’s protest action coincided with a continuous two week demonstration outside the Románián Embassy which started at 6.30 this evening. According to a Budapest report 100-150 are taking part in the peaceful and until now unhindered action. Flags and banners were nőt permitted by the police.
