The appeal which began "Let us Savé the Jurta Theatrel" was ignored by the Hungárián raass média until today - July 30th - when two national papers reported on it. Magyar Nemzet ("Hungárián News") stated in an article entitled "The Right to Survive" that "in reality the Jurta Theatre has become a symbol of modernity in a democratically developing Hungary". The writer of the article - István Boros - gave an account of the most important details in the Theatre*s appeal: that interference during construction work was the cause of their 25 millión Forint debt and that economic sanctions were imposed upon the Theatre fór political reasons. István Boros maintained that "direct politicisation and artistry cannot be housed together", bút came to the conclusion that one was morally bound to help those in trouble and that one does nőt kick a mán when he is down. The article published the bank account number of the Theatre and its P.O. Box so that those who wish to help can send donations. The Magyar Hírlap ("Hungárián News") article entitled "There are Precedents to the Jurta Incident" was of an entirely different natúré. The greater part of Tamás Mészáros’ s article was taken up with an interview with an actor in the Jurta company, István Holl. Holl asserted that the actors were intimidated by the Jurta manager, who - allegedly - plunged the Theatre intő morál and financial bankruptcy and now tries to represent himself as a political martyr in his declaratiouaand appeals which have even reached abroad. According to the interview the Ministry or other agencies should protect actors from the manager. The paper alsó published details of the appeal bút it left out the causes of its debt and did nőt give the Theatre’s account number or postai address.
