Article in Hungárián Press. In the last few days many people have expressed sympathy with the participants in the protest action which has been going fór six days - lawyers, writers, workers and pensioners and a large group of refugees from Románia and many others announ- ced that they would alsó fást. The day before yesterday the YDA workers group held a meeting and decided to support the hunger strikers. They issued a solidarity state- ment demanding that a passport law be drafted that does nőt allow fór political discrimination. The Hungárián mass média has alsó started to focus on the hunger strike. Yesterday’s edition of Magyar Nemzet ("Hungárián Nation") reported Karoly Grósz’s July 21st statement and published an interview with two participants in the protest action: Ferenc Kőszeg and Róbert Pálinkás. A Hungárián Rádió employee alsó had talks with the hunger strikers and the interview was broadcast on Kossuth Rádió’s "168 Hours" programme on Saturday. On the same day Nepszabadsag (Peoples Freed- om) covered Karoly Grósz’s Los Angeles press conference in which the Hungárián Prime Minister and Party Secretary declared - among other things - that an "International agreement compels us nőt to permit those with previous convictions to travel abroad." An intemational agreement such as this does nőt exist - said Róbert Pálinkás on behalf of the hunger strikers only Hungárián statutes exclude those previously convicted from their civil right to travel. The interior authorities are nőt con- sistent in this respect either as somé people with previous convictions received passports. Ferenc Kőszeg said that they will finish their protests action on July 27th, when Grósz concludes his American trip. They then wish to submit a civil pro- posal to the govemment and Parliament, they propose that a passport law which is fundamentally different from the present one is drafted. At present the police have the final say in travel affairs, this contradicts the principles of legality and con s ti tu tion ali sm .
