On July 17th five Hungárián citizens - Péter Bokros, Jenő Fonay, Ferenc Kőszeg and Tamás Molnár from Budapest and Dr Gyula Erdei who lives in Szolnok - issued an announcement. They stated that on July 19th, on Monday moming, they vili start a hunger strike in Budapest in a priváté fiat, number 4» Und floor, 19 Münnich Ferenc Street Budapest V, in protest against the vithdrawal by the authorities of their right to travel abroad. They say that they have exhausted all the legal channels open to them - they appealed against the refusal of their applications, they requested a reconsideration and sent appeals to leading politicians -, bút they did nőt even récéivé a justification fór the author- ities’ decision. Passport vithdrawal is, they say, a means of political discrimination, the police still defend their right to unlimited power. The announcement finishes: "We wish to draw foreign and national attention to these facts by our action". The signatories call upon all those who have alsó had the right to travel withdrawn and who are in sympathy with them to jóin their cause. Finally yesterday moming six people began the hunger strike, Dr Tibor Pakh is alsó taking part, in a separate declaration he announced that he was joining the protest in the hope that "it vili help to establish a legal system which is appropiate to our democratic traditions."
