In the aftemoon police attacked those on Heroes Square with truncheons and tear gas. They even confiscated films, cassettes and videó recordings made by foreign tourists.

At 2.50 Tibor Pakh was shoved intő a police cár and taken away. At 3 pm about 4.0 people led by Sándor Racz and the writer István Gsurka brought the Hungárián Demo- cratic Fórum’s wreath intő the square. The police arrested Racz and János Dénes who was president of the 1956 Kőbánya Workerjs Council and who was supposed to make a speech. The histórián Lajos Ffar and István Csurka took over from them bút on seeing the police violence they decided to take it to the Franciscan church on Mártírok Street. Here a service of mouming was planned in the evening. The Sanctuary Lamp had already been surrounded by police in the early aftemoon.
