the present "feudal socialist" conditions to the arrangements of a feudal state and demanded an honorary grave fór Imre Nagy in the Kerepes Cemetery. János Kis reminded the participants of the meeting that the Democratic Opposition had re- named the Batthyány Sanctuary Lamp the "Batthyány-Imre Nagy Sanctuary Lamp" last year on June l6th. The Saturday political conference proved that it is nőt possible to tűm the diff- erent groups of Hungárián intellectuals demanding reform against each other. The conference uas organised by the Populist Writers Hungárián Democratic Fórum, bút all the various tendencies had the same right to speak, even participants in the Democratic Opposition Movement. From among the members of the presidium and the speakers many had spent a long time in prison in the years following the suppression of the revolution. Despite the bán many Party members alsó took part in the conference, proving Gyula Fekete*s point that the divide in contemporary Hungary is nőt betveen Party and non-Party, bút between those who wish fór democratic renewal and those who obstruct it. The participants in the conference adopted a common declaration bút they did nőt hand it over to the press agencies because they vould like the official Hungárián press to publish their ovn statement.- 2 -
