It vanted to make them believe that the national minorities present the greatest danger to the Románián nation. Brasov and Timi^oara are evidence: perhaps it is clear to everybody in Románia today that the only reál danger is Ceau^escu’s policy vhich thrusts the country intő bankruptcy. We hope that in Románia the Romanians and other nationalities will unité against this common danger. We are sure that the soving of dissension no longer has any reál political chance. We uish the Románián nation to fight fór political change vhich vili create demo- cratic relationships in «n areas of political, economic and social life, inc- luding the question of national minorities, Ceau^escu’s rule is alsó equivalent to matériái, spiritual and morál genocide fór the Románián nation. The fact that the minority is more oppressed cannot make the májőrity happy in misery. Hov- ever tragic the tension is betveen Romanians and Hungarians ve must build on the values of cooperation vhich vere formed by history. The vievs of a number of eminent representatives of the Románián Hungarians are already acknovledged by the vorld. We are convinced that the Románián Hungarians vant an honorable democracy based on true popular sovereignty, on genuine individual and cbll- ective nationality rights and on articulating group interests. The existence of the minority can only evolve freely in collaboration vith the majority. We vish only affluence, freedom and an honorable democracy fór the Romanians. It is in our prime interest as véli as it is fór the vhole area and fór the vhole of Europe. We ask the true people of the Románián nation nőt to be deluded. They must knov that ve are vith them, in true solidarity, in their fight fór a really inaependent, free and modern country.- 2 -
