Why áré we still unión members? Out of indolence, habit, fear. Bút we have no reason to fear anything. Union membership is nőt compulsory and if thousands and tens of thousands_of us ieave the unions, nobody can húrt us. 17.000 full-time unión officials live on our membership fees. The 2^ billión forint budget of SZOT comes out of our contributions. Against all appearances, the unions depend on us so we ought to force them to serve us. How? Voluntary membership contributions are a century-old tradition of the Trade Union movement. Let us deny our agreement to deduction of membership fees from our pay. Bút this is nőt enough. Let us Ieave the unions and form committees to safeguard our interests! Mass resignations would spell the end of the unions and if the leaders are scared they will talk to us. Let us demand a radical reform of the unión charter, let us demand new unión elections and let us elect our own candidates to unión posts! In the ever worsening economic situation we alone can protect our own interests. LEAVE THE UNIONS! _______________M_________________- 2 -
