He had been charged with infringement of the press laws on the evidence of a house search conducted on 1 st of April in his fiat, during which literature was found that had been printed without a permit. The Hungárián political police have persisted in their harassment of the editors of Between Points of the Compass and their colleagues. Last year on the 30th anniversary of the revolution László Rusai was hauled off to the closed wing of Gyöngyös hospital, and was nőt released fór weeks on the pretext that he needed psychiatric treatment. A house search was carried out in Zsolt Keszthelyit fiat in February, and in the same month he was summoned fór military service; when he refused to serve on grounds of conscience, he was sentenced to 2^ years inprisonment. Since the sentence, Keszthelyi has been moved from one prison to another. At present he is being held at Márianosztra. Fór two months he has nőt been able to speak to relatives and friends, and was recently threatend with the withdrawal of the right to correspond. The flats of József Talata, Gyula Bartók and Mikolta Bognár have been searched several times; Talata has received three fines this year totalling 26,000 forints, while Gyula Bartók and Mikolta Bognár have been fined 6,000 forints each. The constant police proceedings - house searches, summonses - means that in effect the editors of Between Points of the Compass are under police supervision. Recently three further participants in the Hungárián democratic opposition movement (who do nőt wish to be named) were fined, two of them 10,000 forints and the third 7,000. This year the police have levied fines totalling 120,000 forints on the editors and distributors of samizdat matéria!. Xj
