This time the sociologist András Nagy and Jenő Nagy, organizer of the independent publishing house 'ABC’, have been fined 10,000 forints each, and thus the sum totál of the fines imposed in the first four months of the year mounts up to 69,000 forints. The decisions conceming the more recent fines have the peculiar feature of having been passed without trial and that the persons concerned received only an announcement and a pay-in form, without being heard. The decisions alsó order the destruction of the items con- fiscated on the occasion of house raids, although there are numerous personal notes and priváté letters among them. The police statutes alsó ordain the fines to be converted intő detention in the case they are nőt being paid. In the case of the 10,000 forint fines this will result in a 50 days long confinement. Nőt one of the eight participants of the democratic opposition fined in 1987 paid the sum levied on him up to now. ________________________________ _______ 2
