Krassá 35/!987/E/ 2nd April, 1987 Official proceedings, house searches in Budapest, plans to modify the organization of the Writers1 Association The latest (N0.I4) issue of the samizdat journal EGTAJAK KÖZÖTT ("Between Poles") entitled "Eclipse of the Earth" has been finished on the 31st of March. This independent monthly is being edited by young Hungárián intel- lectuels forming the VOX HUMANA circle. They were the first to publish the roll of the Writers' Association's new presidency in January, this year. Sin- ce that time somé police actions were carried out against them and one of the editors of the journal, Zsolt Keszthelyi, was called up fór military service. Yesterday, on the lst of April, the day following the appearance of the journal's latest issue, the political police searched the home of József Talata at 36 János Sobieski St., Budapest IX., as well as that of Mikolta Bognár, Xj6 Wesselényi St., Budapest VII. Talata's piacé was raided by five plain-clothes and three uniformed policemen at 7.45pm; they entered his fiat with their batons offered to strike and proceeded with the search of the premises fór five hours, as long as half pást midnight. The policemen behaved in an uncouth manner, uttering oathes and threats. Two of the three guests staying with Talata were nőt allowed to leave, whereas the third one, Mikolta Bognár, was taken by a police cár to the police headquarters of District VII, where a decree was made out authorizing the "checking" of her premises. The search in her piacé wás done by four uniformed and four plain- clothes policemen. The police confiscated 160 unauthorized püblications apart from manusripts, handwritten and typed notes, priváté letters, a personal diary,a note-book, photographs and a silk-screen printing frame in the two flats and refused to make an exact and detailed record of the items confiscated. At Talata's piacé the policemen were unwilling to identify themselves and only one of theín told his name. Talata had a fine of 6,000 forints imposed on him hardly a week ago by the police of District IX fór "violating press regulations", as a result of an earlier house search on the 4th of February.
