Krassé 21/1987 /E/ 12th March, 1987 Secret Hungárián documents ip the West and new samizdat publications in Hungary Three days ago the 19th issue of the samizdat journal "Beszélő” appeared in Budapest. The police had already confiscated over 100 copies of it during house- searches carried out on the llth of February. The latest issue of the journal contains, in the main, writings related to the 1956 revolution: the text of the indictment prepared in 1957 in the case of the Győr theatre director Gábor Földes, who's been executed; the minutes of the Greater Budapest Central Workers' Council; the writings of István Eörsi,.Miklós Haraszti, Ferenc Kőszeg, György Krassó and Sándor Szilágyi which deal with 1956 as well as a study, which attempts to take account of the scale of the retaliations after the uprising. The leading article tries to draw the balance of the performance of the Kadar régimé starting from its establishment through the consolidation to the current losing of its balance. In recent months quite a large number of samizdat publications appeared in Hungary, and a great proportion of these deal with the revolution, e.g. Bili Lomax: "Hungary 1956" published by AB; Béla Király: "The first war between socialist countries" published by AB and ABC; a tape recorder casette with the history of the revolution and originál rádió broadcasts (an M0 reprint ); the text of speeches held in a priváté home on the 5th and 6th of December 1986, commemorating the revolution; the "Textbook of the revolution" composed of 1956 newspaper cuttings; Tibor Meray - Tamás Acze'l: "Cleansing storm" published by Áramlat and AB; "The Secret Speech of N. S. Khrushchev at the XXth Congress of the CPSU1' published by M0. The 1987/No.l issue of "A Hirmondó", the 1987/No.2 issue of "Demokrata" entitled "A message of March"; an issue of "Between Poles" entitled "Mistletoe" and the Do. 5 issue of "Inconnu Press " were alsó published. The environmental protection samizdat journal "Watermark" came out with its latest issue as well. Alsó reachedí the West the full text of the "Report on the political tasks relating to the activity of the oppositional-hostile groups" presented at a meeting of the Central Committee of the Hungárián Socialist Workers' Party on the lst of July, 1986, as well as that of the resolution of the Politburo on this subject. Both of these documents deal with measures planned to restrain and liquidate the democratic opposition in Hungary. The above mentioned Politburo resolution was described in the British press by George Schopflin, university lectu- rer. The documents are undoubtedly authentic, bút somé observers hold the view that the Hungárián party leadership has leaked them on purpose with the intention of making the opposition aware of the threats via the foreign press and rádió broadcasts. The 20th February 1987 issue of "East European Markets" (a publication of the London—based "Financial Times") outlines another secret paper. This is a report entitled "Turn-about and reform", which has been jointly prepared by 35 Hungárián economists in recent months and contains their proposals of radical economic and political reforms. The "Patriotic ifeople ’s Front" led by Imre Pozs- gay has debated the proposals, bút the party leadership didn't allow the publication of the report. The British journal prints the full preamble of the 80 page draft report in English. V
