Kras-si 7/1937 4th February, 1937 Names of Slected Leíders of the Hungárián Writers Union In the course of the last General Assembly of the Hungárián Writers Union, held in the last days of November 193ó, the writers re-elected * the Union’g governing board /"Választmány"/. Ag a result of the secret ballot those representing the official current cultural policy lost their membership in the governing board. Starting frotn then fiery attacks against the writers have been published in the official press and 27 communist members of the Union resigned írom this organization. The other appr. 140 communists remained; somé of them were even elected in the governing board. Cultural leaders have been considering the disbanding of the Writers Union and Eela Xöpeczi, Mnister of Sducation, stated on 31st January, in his long article in Népszabadság /the party’s daily/, that the ministry doesn’t regard any longer the Union as a represenative and Consulting body of the writers. On 5th February Népszabadság attacked Gyula Fekete, new vice- president of the Union owing to an interview he had given to Nick Thorpe, correspondent of EBC. In December 1986 the new governing board elected, from its own members, the new officials of the Union. The lists of the Union’s new governing board and officials, which have nőt been published in Hungárián official press, are now first time available.
