HIS Press Service No. 22, January 1982 Page 9 Topic: The faithful are interested in the Gospel only to the extent that is promoted in all its radicalness "We have at present reached a point at which we shall either succeed in awakening in people hope in the ever-present Kingdom of God and in placing their hope in that epoch and history making community whose representatives make the approach of Jesus their own and imitate his life - or we shall only be able to win over the aged, children, the dying, and the mentally deficient to our way of thinking. This means that we either concretely see our mission in forming communities of love which comprise a few families, and then coordinate them with the Church, or the possibilities which are available to carry out our mission will become lost. Either we shall succeed in bringing about communities of love which are not of a biological (based on blood ties) or political character, which do not seek to enrich themselves, are against the use of violence, and are not interested in attaining power, or we are of no use for anything but keeping alive an irrelevant, liturgy producing factory for which there is increasingly less interest. One must come to realize that everything which does not constitute a radical adherence to the Gospel is uninteresting. We must finally come to realize that the political parties, and atheism too, are here to promote the commonly respected ethics of society. We must realize that people are not willing to go to church for respectability's sake. They believe they are capable of that without going to church." Topic: Jesus concerned himself only with adults "While God was on the earth in human form, ...he did not maintain a Church operation wherein he bestowed sacraments or sacramentals. He did not spend time with children.... Jesus concerned himself solely with instructing adults.... He did not sit home and wait to see who would find time when to visit him..., but wandered instead about Israel, the land with which his father had entrusted him, and, letting his good deeds proceed him like a messenger, he instructed all the adults he met on his way___ Among these adults, there were some who became close to him, i.e., who followed him on his path. From these, he chose twelve men who were approximately twenty years old and withdrew from time to time from the public eye in order to instruct them." Topic: One must begin from the base in order to bring about the realization of life's sacredness; to order its existence from above is impossible "The Church is not an organization which should exercise power. It has neither a police nor military system. Jesus can give the Pope, the Pope in turn the bishop, the bishop the pastor, and the pastor the faithful the command to be holy. But neither Jesus nor the Pope, the bishop, or the pastor are in a position to guarantee
