reserves etc.), or if they refer to wells, medicinal water, or to so-called saintwells, the notes contain further details. The material deriving from the gazetter of Frigyes Pesty has been widely used in the publication called The Geographic Names of Heves County that deals with the present-day geographic names. For the publication of the above mentioned work it was not the original manuscript of Pesty's compilation found in the National Széchényi Library that the makers used, but the notes of other users that contained faulty variants and interpretations. As a result of that, the place names either contain errors or -this is more common-, they are omitted because of the mis-spellings. Therefore all the place names indicated in the village descriptions of Pesty's gazetteer are compared to the names found in the series of volumes called The Geographic Names of Heves County, and the missing or faulty place names are referred to in the notes. Since Frigyes Pesty's compilation of place names, settlement names have changed. That is the reason why we added a place name identifier to this work that may be found by the Honored Reader in the end of the publication under the name Appendix. This place name identifier contains the onetime place names of the county as well as the index of their official present-day form along with administrative whereabouts of the settlements that no longer belong to Heves County, broken down to countries. In the end of the book the comprehensive administrative map of Heves County published by the Hungarian Geographic Institute Ltd. in August 1928 is found. The aim of the work Frigyes Pesty: Gazetteer of Heves County, is to give the researchers a multi-purpose review publication. 353
