TANULMÁNYOK, KÖZLEMÉNYEK - Nagy Nándor: Nemzetiszocialista pártszerveződések Hatvanban 1933–1937 között • 191

Nándor Nagy: National-socialist political organizations in Hatvan between 1933 and 1937 The economic and social consequences of the Great Depression of 1929-1933 exercised significant influence on the political life and the political organizations of Hungary. From the early 1930's a great number of extreme-right parties and political organizations came into existence usually with the participation of the same half a dozen politicians. Usually organizations with varying composition and names as well as several "potential great leaders" competed with each other. The world of national-socialist parties was characterized by a seemingly never- ending chain of events comprising of foundations-segregations-mergers. The majority of these parties appeared in Heves county and in the town of Hatvan too. Although these regions were not the most important in the political activity of these organizations, I think it is important to present these political groups since researchers of regional history in recent decades didn't deal with this subject at all. By presenting the activity of these extreme-right parties, several such aspects of the history of Hatvan can be highlighted that were not really well-known before, One such example is the Hatvany family whose successful business enterprises and activities supporting the cultural life in Hungary have been covered in many publications. However their role played in the public life of Hatvan is barely known. 214
