preserving the privilege according to which wines coming from other places, (those from the so-called of Upper Hungary) could not be sold in Miskolc. This privilege (which the citizens of Miskolc had recieved from the king in the Middle Ages) was violated more times by the nobility of Miskolc, against whom the town took agressive measures several times (their wine was confiscated and drained away. In the second halt" of the 16 n century the greatest problems for the market-town of Miskolc (and for the other territories situated on the bordér zone of the Turkish rule in Hungary) were the tribute to be paid to the Turks and the agricultural prosperity. The communitas of the town and the local nobility tried to solve these problems, this success is shown through the fact that, Miskolc preserved its integrity, economic power and cultural values evén in the Turkish régime. 26
