TANULMÁNYOK - Török Márta: A „Liber I." helye az Egri Érseki Gazdasági Levéltárban • 175

Its forming and the beginning of the arranging works can be connected, first of all, with the name of the Bishop of Eger, István Telekesy. After a short story analysis of the church district this dissertation was looking for an answer to the question how and for vvhat reason the Libri volume was written. Why exactly at that time did the collection of volumes start? The volume presents the economic situation of the bishopric and the chapter and circumstances and reasons of the discussion about ownership between them, with the help of documentcopies. But Bishop Telekesy's primary aim was to continue the work started by György Fenesy. After concluding the Transactio in 1694 he deemed it necessary to confirm further the landowner jurisdiction regarding the authority of Eger with the help of the collected documents. But at the same time this bishopric's authority had to be confirmed at the Court Chamber and aí the monarch, too. The discussion about the legal replacing of the landowner jurisdiction and about the keeping of the free royal city ránk (which the city of Eger got in 1687, after the driving out of the Turks) has gone on for a long time. The collected documents (including Liber I.) gave powerful help to the establishing of the domanial archive förmed later. 3y arranging the series in proper order the renowned bishop-successor Count Gábor Erdődy and Count Károly Eszterházy were able to continue their efforts regarding the regaining possession of the land territories of the church district of Eger. To sun it up: ,.Liber I." became the indispensable source to know better and more punctually the social and economic problems of Bishop Telekesy's age. Besides, it offers valuable information for the res. 193
