History of the Kaszanyitzky family from Debrecen Enikő Amália Lovas-András Kaszanyitzky Jr. The modernization waves of the 19th century in Debrecen changed the society that had been very isolated before. From this time the moving, enterprising merchants were able to settle here. The families, that brought into fashion the new mentality, changed the society of town. The Kaszanyitzkys belonged to these merchants who had a modem turn of mind, and this study shows us the path ot their life in Debrecen. The family history deals with the questions of their economical development, their family backround and their personalities, as well. They won their position in the economic and social life of the town by their ability, high talented intellect and through the family and business connections. They kept their position for a long time, too. Their fair and high standard management of business was combined with a modest civil way of life in which they were interested in culture, as well. Their manner and their well-considered managing of the property proved to be a strong shelter through the hard times of the history. People nowadays can leam a lot from the history of the Kaszanyitzky family. Their civil mentality has remained until our day in the society, their worth represents an idealogy. That is why there is every hope that the examples of our former representatives will get their right place in the common knowledge of the society again.
