Tanulmányok - Dankó Imre: Debrecen története két bibliográfiában

Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXX. 241 Two bibliographies on the history of Debrecen Imre Dankó The paper consists of two parts. The first part with listing of the most important bibliographic data relates that Debrecen had developed into such a cultural centre by the second half of the XVI century, in which a magnificent book culture and the relating book, library and bibliography erudition was developed and maintained right up to the present day. The commencing dates of this development: school foundation 1538, the library (establishment a few years later) around 1550, printing works foundation 1561. This flowering book culture was given enormous impetus by the establishment of the Debrecen University in 1914. The first part of the paper also deals with the fact that the Debrecen erudition of about one and a half centuries gained great significance with the local history published with complex and monographic demands (within this the institution history and library science- bibliography). This local history research-processing and publishing activity was crowned by the so-called five-volume History of Debrecen, to which the work of Bényei Miklós, the Indexes volume (2000) contributed as the sixth volume, and the Local history literature of Debrecen (2002) published as the seventh volume. Bényei Miklós (born 5. January 1943), the highly qualified pursuer and developer of the best library, bibliographic traditions, is the deputy director of the hajdú-Bihar County Library, and Informatics Professor at Debrecen University. He is an extremely productive personality known nationally as an excellent historian (reform era, labour movement), local historian (literary history, general cultural history) and bibliographer. Among others he is also a collaborator in the Hajdú- Bihar County Archives publications. Several of his studies have appeared in the Archives annual, but what is perhaps more important from our particular point of view: in the Debrecen, Local histoiy bibliography of Hajdú-Bihar County appearing regularly once a year. Bényei Miklós is now 60 years of age. With this paper the archives and his colleagues wish to congratulate him on this occasion, emphasising that the extremely rich and variegated history of Debrecen city is splendidly recognisable from the two bibliographies presented in the second part of the paper. In the second part of the paper the more than excellent autobiography of Bényei Miklós is presented (The life work of Bényei Miklós in technical literature and publishing / 964-2002. 2003.), which is of enormous significance from the point of view of its detailed, meticulous presentation of Debrecen’s history and cultural history. The author (or “compiler” — as he likes to say) of the second publication presented, is similarly Bényei Miklós. The literature on Debrecen 's local histoiy is discussed, which appeared as the seventh volume of the monumental monograph entitled The histoiy of Debrecen (2002). The two bibliographies are closely related with each other and splendidly “supplement”, and richly tinctures the subjects discussed in the five-volume Histoiy of Debrecen.
