Tanulmányok - Husvéth András: A zsidóság gazdasági és társadalmi szerepe Hajdúnánáson (a kezdetektől 1848/49-ig)
kiépülő intézményrendszer a század közepére a környék legjelentősebb zsidó kolóniájává tette a nánási közösséget. A semmiből induló népcsoport ötven év alatt gyökereket eresztett, otthonra lelt Hajdúnánáson, ahol a biztos alapok kiépülése után bizakodva várhatták a következő időszakot, amely a nánási zsidóság fénykorát hozta el. Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXX. 159 The economic and social role of the Jews at Hajdúnánás (up to 1848/49) András Husvéth The settlement of Jewish people at Hajdúnánás is a typical example of the settlement of Jewish people in the lowland towns. The town jealously guarding its privileges, in the beginning strove with all its available administrative implements against the strangers moving into the town, however this severity abated later on. The first part of the paper examines the types and frequency of the initial conflicts between the old inhabitants of the town and the, ethnically and religiously alien settlers. The following section of greater content presents and evaluates the role played by the Jews in the economic life of Hajdúnánás. This is mainly shown through the career of one outstanding personality, leaseholder Dávid Fried, from the initial leasehold contract attempts of „Dávid the Jew” right up to the time when „that fine gentleman Dávid Fried” became the almost exclusive proprietor of the leaseholds in the town, an honoured business partner of Hajdúnánás leaders and the bearer of high ranking social positions. The third part of the work, presents the most important measures and orders of Hajdúnánás and Hajdú district in connection with the Jewish people, by means of which the slow abatement of the severity in connection with the aliens can be observed, the acceptance of the presence of the Jews, and the promotion of their adaptation by means of legal regulations. The paper closes with the events of the 1848/49 years, because following this, a new situation came about for the Jewish people, both legally and economically.
