Hajdú-Вihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXVII 351 Lajos Zoltai: The Hortobágy Area Introduced by Kálmán Radies Zoltai’s article from 1911 provides us with an informative description of the Hungarian “puszta” (plains), illustrated with 23 photographs. In the first part of his work, the author writes about the location, expansion, soil conditions, bodies of water, and areas of elevation of the area called Hortobágy, following which he discusses its flora and fauna, alongside the natural characteristics of the plains. Other topics covered include the stone bridge, the inn, the shepherds and their accommodation facilities, the herds of cattle, horses, and sheep, while he also touches upon the order of grazing grounds and the rights pertaining to grazing. The concluding part provides a brief history of the plains.
