Tanulmányok - Szendiné Orvos Erzsébet: Oklevelek Debrecen és Erdély kapcsolatához
some insight into the policy of Transylvanian princes towards individual towns. A basic condition for the development and welfare of the town of Debrecen was its effort to obtain privileges and that those privileges should also be confirmed afterwards. The study covers the following areas: free election of judges and free jurisdiction, the donation of landed property, the freedom of movement for settlement in other locations, the restriction of the prerogatives of the nobility, exemption from duties, the right to hold fairs and to levy tax on goods, the ownership of the right for royal smallholdings, the promotion of guilds and the reduction of taxes. Summing up, the author arrives at the conclusion that, on the testimony of the charters and other documents, the relationship between Debrecen and Transylvania can be considered to have been a good one during the 17lh century. In sum, the Transylvanian princes largely contributed to the process of Debrecen becoming one of the most affluent market-towns of Hungary. Hajdü-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXVII 27
