312 Zoltai Lajos: A Debreczeni Egyetem felavatása Queen Zita. The construction of the Medical Faculty’s department buildings was started in 1914. The work was completed by the building company of the entrepreneurs Tóth-Reményik-Sebestyén with approximately one thousand employees, among whom there were a great number of Russian, then Italian prisoners of war. Lajos Zoltai’s article gives account of the preparations, of the arrival in Debrecen of the royal couple, the personal composition of the reception party and the details of the programme for the memorable day. The royal guests arrived in the city at 10 a.m., they were received by the deputation of celebrities inside and a large crowd outside the building of the railway station. From here they drove to the city hall in the famous coach and five of the city accompanied by a band of horsemen and a cheering crowd. They had lunch in the Officers’ Club and went over to the Great Church. The inauguration of the university took place after that, then followed a visit to the Reformed College and in the evening a cultural programme in the Csokonai Theatre. The Royal couple and their entourage left the city at 18 hours.
