The beneficial impact and strength of the “safety net” provided for the cooperatives by the administrative bodies of the state are well demonstrated in Hajdú- Bihar County by the changes in the political judgement of the so-called Nádudvar method. The author traces the process how this local initiative of income- distribution changed step by step in the course of time from the category of forbiddance through toleration, acquiescence, partial but not total support to a legalised practice. The study of the struggle, then compromise over interest co-ordination between the members, the co-operative and the state can contribute not only to revealing the “deviation” from the Soviet collective-farm model, but may give help to a more shaded presentation of the antecedents and implementation of the 1967 agricultural reform.
