Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXIII 263 vetkezetek birtokába jutott (Kiss-féle és Veréb-féle), a Szilágyi gyárat pedig a népszövetkezet „vette ki bérbe”, miután tulajdonosának a tevékenységét előzőleg megakadályozták és ipara gyakorlásának szüneteltetésére kényszeríttették. Mindezek az üzemek a nyersanyag szűkössége miatt is, de a kellő szakértelem hiánya miatt is csődbe jutottak. Előbb a Veréb-féle gyár ment tönkre (ez volt а П. sz. Munkásszövetkezeti Bőrgyár) és 1947. szeptember 20-án beolvadt az I. sz. Mun- kásszövetkezeti Bőrgyárba (Kiss-félébe). Ez utóbbi is leállt 1951-re. Ezzel a város évszázadokon át virágzó iparága, az utolsó évtizedeiben még a gyári színvonalat is elért bőripara szűnt meg és majd csak 1954- ben indult meg egyetlen üzemként a „Hajdúsági Bőrgyár”. A csapás nemcsak azért volt súlyos, mert néhány gyáros elvesztette nehezen kifejlesztett gyárát, tulajdonát, hanem a náluk jóval nagyobb létszámú, csak műhellyel rendelkező iparosoktól is elvették megélhetésüket, sőt a százakra menő alkalmazottaik addigi kenyérkeresetét is megszűntették. Ernő Szűcs: Leather factories from tanneries The aim of the paper is to present the creation of the four leather factories in Debrecen, the way they were developed from tanneries to factories. However the Author - as a preliminary - remarks with the quotation of numerical data on the path taken by the tanning industry since 1355. In the course of this mention is made; as to what made possible the establishment of the great number of tanneries (significant animal breeding, large meat processing industry, sodic- water, etc.). Following this the paper acquaints us, in chronological order, with a brief history of the four factories ( Veréb Lajos's First Debrecen Leather Factory, Kiss Brothers' Leather Factory Corp., Pikó József and Son’s unlimited partnership and the Szilágy type of factory). Then an analysis is presented; as to what made the foundation of these plants possible? According to the Author, this was made possible by the experience accumulated over several generations, diligence, durability and aptitude. But these were also assisted by the excellent, high quality work carried out previously, the state support and the bank loans granted at favourable rates. In the course of the paper light is thrown on some individual channels (marrying into the business), moreover the conjunctural and deconjunctural relationships are also mentioned.
