The history of nursery school building in Debrecen (1844 - 1948) Mrs Gábor Szilágyi Debrecen's first nursery school was built in 1844, and in the same year the reformed church also opened a nursery school on the Ispotály settlement. For a long period no progress was made in the area of nursery school building, then in 1890 the second town nursery school was finished in Árok (Eötvös) street. As the law on nursery schools specified, and a demand was shown on the part of the town's inhabitants, newer infant schools were established in 1900 at Mester and Tímár streets. Meanwhile the first nursery school building became so obsolete, that it became necessary to move the nursery to another building. The nursery school moved into its new premises at József King Prince street (Bajcsy Zs.) 64-65. in 1912. In 1913. the Szív street nursery school, which was established and maintained by the reformed church, came under town administration. In 1930. the town built a total of 7 nursery schools, at Szoboszlói road, Nyílás settlement, Nyúlás settlement, Pozsonyi road, Létai street, Alvinczy square and in the old Téglavető area. In 1940 the town's first day time nursery school was established, with the conversion of the Téglavető nursery school. After the withdrawal of the front, the majority of the nursery schools were in need of renovation, as almost all of the furnishings and fittings were missing. In spite of the difficult circumstances, the nursery school service commenced in the town from April 1945. After 1945 the plants and factories established day time nursery schools for the benefit of the children of their workers. In 1948 the nursery schools under the administration of the town up to then, passed into the ownership of the State. Hajdú-Bihar Megyei Levéltár Évkönyve XXIII
