ADDITIONAL MATERIAL TO THE HISTORY OF THE SECONDARY SCHOOL OF THE TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTE IN DEBRECEN 1936—1949 Mrs. Róza Mervó The Statute No. 27. in 1924, which ruled the instruction and qualification of secondary school teachers, made it the task of the teacher training institutes to Found teacher training secondary schools. In Debrecen the Teacher Training Secondary School was opened only in 1936. The practical training of the teacher trainees had taken place in three church and a state secondary schools. The school was placed in a hied building, in the Stégmüller house, at No. 12, Simonyi street. It was equipped by the Ministry of religion and Education. The teacher training secondary school, open on 22nd, September in 1936, started its working with a ist and a 5th forms under the supervision of director Béla Jausz. It was completed continually and it became a whole eight form secondary school by the 1934/1944 school-year. Almost all members of its shtíí.! were engaged in scientific researches and many of them wrote text-books.... The institutecion provided for 40 to 50 teacher trainees every year to prepare them?eb:tes 'both in theory and in practice for teaching. For two school-years after the war the institution was integrated into the United Public Secondary School for Boys and could return into its place in the Simonyi street only in the November of 1946. One of the most dignified secondary schools in the region east of the river Tisza was dissolved in June, 1949 by the secondary school reform. 137
