Debrecen and the Kuruts-Movements - With Special Regard to Its Relationship to the Rákóczi War of Independence

The historiography gf earlier times judged the relationship of Debrecen to the Kuruts- Movements almost exclusively in the same way as it did e.g. the behaviour towards István Bocskai and Gábor Bethlen's struggles. Though there were some work revealing moderate scepticism about the positive character of this relationship, but only recently has the idea presented itself quite definitely that there existed ,two' Debrecens in those days, the civic one — gravitating towards Vienna - and the Kuruts town. In our days, as yet, rather little is known about the behaviour and the political motives of both the former and the latter Kuruts Debrecen. What is known is not enough to draw a final definite conclusion. Therefore, in the first place we tried to show the almost unambiguous loyal-to-Vienna conduct of the principal leaders of contemporary Debrecen in our work and we indicated in what fields the research work should be continued in order to form a realistic picture about this question.

Отношение Дебрецена к движениям куруцев прежняя историография оценивала почти исключительно так, как например позицию города, которую он занимал по отношению к борьбам Иштвана Бочкаи и Габора Бетлена. Правда, бывали труды, обнаружившие осторожное сомнение в положительной сущности этого отношения, но только в последнее время возникла определённо мысль, что в этот период существовали «два» Дебрецена; город- «цивиш», прильнувший к Вене, и куруцский город. Сегодня мы ещё довольно мало знаем о позициях и первого и куруцского Дебрецена, о пружинах их политики. Что известно, то не достаточно для того, чтобы решительно сделать конечные выводы. Поэтому в нашем труде мы хотели бы представить в первую очередь недвумысленно верное Вене поведение главнейших руководителей Дебрецена этого периода; одновременно мы хотели бы намекнуть и на то, в каких областях было бы нужно проводить дальше исследования для того, чтобы получить о вопросе реальное представление.
