József Zachar (né en 1943) est chercheur en histoire politique et militaire de l'époque moderne, professeur d'université ä l'école supérieure Eszterházy Károly et membre du Conseil d'administration de l'académie des Sciences de Hongrie, en mérne temps que President de la Commission nationale des historiens militaires hongrois. II a publié une vingtaine d'ouvrages ainsi que de trés nombreux articles spécialisés. II participe ré- guliérement aux congrés scientifiques en Hongrie et ä l'étranger. Son engagement et sa connaissance de 1'histoire hongroise vont nous manquer. C'était un combattant infatigable pour la propagation de celle-ci et la correction de nombreuses fausses interpretations. Ses nombreuses conféren- ces, comme celle qu'il fit au Symposium de Vienne en juin dernier, reste- ront dans toutes nos mémoires. Ce fut un honneur de pouvoir étre de ses amis. La communauté des historiens est endeuillée par la disparition de l'un des siens. József Zachar est décédé le 9 décembre 2009, ä Budapest (Hongrie)

Obituary

Born in 1943, Professor József Zachar is a researcher of the political and military history of the Modern Era, a University Professor at the Károly Eszterházy College und a member of the Governing Board of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in addition to being President of the National Commission of Hungarian Military Historians. He is the author of twenty individual books and numerous specialist articles, as well as being a regular participant in domestic and foreign scientific conferences. Its commitment and its knowledge of the Hungarian history are going to miss us. He was a tireless fighter for the propagation of it and the correction of numerous false interpretations. His numerous conferences, as the one that he made for the Symposium of Vienna last June, will stay in all our memories. It was an honour to be one of his friends. The community of the historians is saddened by the disappearance of one of his. József Zachar died on 9th December 2009 in Budapest.
