as associations any more. The vast majority of the association archives was annihilated after 1945. In most cases only the constitutions survived and the minutes taken at the formation of the given association. The circle of specifically religious associations can be determined precisely. This determination is based on the reference in the name of an association to a denomination. Moreover, we can suspect religious connection behind numerous explicitly non-religious associations. Many nationwide organisations had local groups in Győr, on the other hand many were established possessing local characteristics. It is especially conspicuous, that a rich and colourful association life was created by the jews of Győr beside the catholic organisations which were dominant in the town. The main obstacle for any further research is the above mentioned annihilation of sources. With the exploration of the several records and periodic supervisions, though, our incomplete knowledge about the associations, and thus - of course - about religious associations and societies, can be enriched.
