Vajk Ádám: "Mibe került ezen hűségi levél?" Kőszegi Miklós győri püspöksége és az országos politika

440 Vajk Ádám the summer of 1318, several years after the rebellion of the bishop’s family. By November, 1320 there is no sign of any conflict between the bishop and the king and Győr seems to be in the possession of the prelate again. The peak of his career was between 1326 and 1331, when he continuously appeared at the royal court: once as one of the founders of the St. George Order, sometimes concerning church issues, sometimes on affairs of state. He supposedly kept a vicar during all along this period. At the same time, he was attacked most probably by his stepbrother, Farkas János. He transuded secret information to the Holy See about the bishop’s parentage, in order to turn him out of office, and occupied Szombathely and other bishopric estates in County Vas. He turned against Miklós in connection with another rebellion of the family, to which the bishop himself refused to join. In his last, rather inactive years he dealt with the estates of the church, and suffered the occupation of his residence again. The king took Győr to put pressure on the bishop and his chapter in order to ensure the succession of his illegitimate son, Prince Kálmán. As a result of an agreement, Miklós of Kőszeg regained his estates a couple of months before his death, in the late spring-early summer of 1336.
